Message Board: Sailing Opportunities

Non-OPO members are welcome to view our message board. You will notice that we do not post contact information. If you think you are or would have been interested in sailing aboard one of the offshore passage opportunities than it is a good indication that you should join OPO. Once you become a member you do not need to come back to the message board as the opportunities will be e-mailed to you as they come up.

In seconds you can become an OPO member like so many other pleased captains and crew.

3/16/2023 from Bahamas to St Kitts and Nevis on a Ohlson

OPO e-mail # 23-06 Boat owner and skipper XXXXXX has a 1958 Ohlson 35-footer named Halcyon. He has sailed it from XXXXXX to Floirda so far. He and his wife are bringing the boat to the Bahamas over the next few weeks. Their goal has always been to get the boat to XXXXXX week the middle of April. Jeff has been moving the boat from XXXXXX to as far as Florida in legs as he has to get back to work every few weeks. He has over a month to get from the Bahamas to St. Kitts starting about XXXXXX Ideally he would to have two more crew to join him for the entire passage, but if need be he has broken it up to suggested legs for those with less time. He plans to stop in the Turks and Caicos, then either XXXXXX or USVI or BVI’s / then onto XXXXXX and Nevis. He e-mails: Planned legs. 1.) Bahamas to Turks - XXXXXX or XXXXXX to Turks and Caicos - Roughly 400 NM 3-4 days 2.) Turks to USVI / BVI / XXXXXX - Roughly 400 - 440 NM 3-4 days 3.) USVI / BVI / XXXXXX to XXXXXX - Roughly 150 NM - 1-2 days Crew can join for the entire trip ( which I plan could take up to 3-4 weeks ) as I plan to stop in each island for a few days. Jeff has gotten crew from us for previous legs and it has worked out well. I have spoken on the phone with him a few times on the phone and he seems like a good guy. This is a wooden boat that has been restored and proven offshore ready as she has already travelled 1000 miles. Classic also means less room below. This is an upwind passage which is why you want to have extra time just in case it is blowing hard for a couple of days here you have to wait. Only experienced crew who know what it is like to go upwind for a few days at a time should apply. As usual the passage is free with all boat expenses and onboard food included, but you need to get to and from the boat. If interested please send your sailing resume to him XXXXX@XXXX
