Message Board: Sailing Opportunities

Non-OPO members are welcome to view our message board. You will notice that we do not post contact information. If you think you are or would have been interested in sailing aboard one of the offshore passage opportunities than it is a good indication that you should join OPO. Once you become a member you do not need to come back to the message board as the opportunities will be e-mailed to you as they come up.

In seconds you can become an OPO member like so many other pleased captains and crew.

7/24/2021 from Detroit MI to Buffalo NY out the St Lawrence Seaway to Cape Canaveral FL finish refit and then to Caribbean. Retired Dr. Frederick Wiseman bought an ex on a Boat

SPAM-LOW: OPO e-mail # 21-49 Whitbread 68 foot boat converted for cruising and is planning to go into the OPOOPO He first contacted us two years ago, but delayed his departure until this year. While trying to get more information about the boat and former plans for his itinerary time slipped away and this long planned sail south is now a short notice passage opportunity for OPO members. He is looking for two or three crew for some legs. Fred has owned the boat for many years and has done many Chicago/Mac races and passages before having time to plan his circumnavigation. He is looking for two or three more crew depending on the leg. . He describes his boat: “This former Whibread/ Mackinaw racer has been completely refurbished deck layout with all new Lewmar hatches to new raised cockpit, new Yanmar 160 turbo engine, mase 10kw generator complete new deck Lewmar auto pilot, full Lewmar steering new interior” While the boat is not 100% done, there are just a couple more systems Fred plans to finish in Florida before heading to the Caribbean and then around the world. Fred will share pictures with you and tell you more. OPO will send out more crew requests as the plans progress and things are working out well. The passage is about 2500 miles and he will watch weather and plans to make some stops along the way visiting friends in Toronto, Boston, NY and Charleston SC. This is not a forced march delivery. He plans to get some work done in OPOOPO before making his way to the BVI to do a few charters and then depart about March for his circumnavigation. For the OPO crew member joining this is a free trip with onboard expenses included, but as usual you have to get to and from the boat and have money for shore stops along the ways. Fred is a retired foot and ankle surgeon and can manage most medical issues. He has owned several smaller sailboats up to 54 Beneteau and has done 25 charters as captain. If interested please e-mail Fred with your sailing resume and contact information so you can exchange more information at XXXXX@XXXX
