Message Board: Sailing Opportunities

Non-OPO members are welcome to view our message board. You will notice that we do not post contact information. If you think you are or would have been interested in sailing aboard one of the offshore passage opportunities than it is a good indication that you should join OPO. Once you become a member you do not need to come back to the message board as the opportunities will be e-mailed to you as they come up.

In seconds you can become an OPO member like so many other pleased captains and crew.

Given the world-wide health concerns of COVID-19, we have suspended the issuance of crew requests. However, we can match members who are ready and able to travel. And we are still accepting crew requests from boat owners. Please contact us with any questions.

1/25/2020 from Pensacola Florida to Nassau Bahamas on a Catamaran

OPO e-mail # 20-04 Boat owner and skipper OPOOPO and his wife are looking for one crew or a couple to join them for this 500 miles passage aboard their 2002 39 foot OPOOPO OPOOPO named “Gypsy Moon”. He was referred to us by another happy sailor who we know. They have one extra cabin for crew. Alan is a very experienced mariner and they spend 6 months of the year on the boat and the rest of the time on the OPOOPO They are in no rush and expect to take up to two weeks making a stop in OPOOPO and then getting a weather window for the crossing to the Bahamas. They are traveling with their 4 year old son and a dog. They have a Blog #gypsymoonfamily. Alan includes: “ We are just coming out of a massive refit for this well-equipped blue water catamaran. Almost all the systems and rigging is refurbished or new. We’ve done this passage a few times. We are outfitted for 5000 mile passages with 100 hours of fuel, water maker, and light air as well as heavy weather capable. Multiple and redundant systems. I’ve owned multiple sub 30 ft ocean going power boats. OPOOPO and OPOOPO commercial fishing experience. Me (56 yrs) my wife (42) and son (4 yrs” I spoke with Alan this morning and he seems like a very nice fellow. He gives us a little more information which I copy below. He would like crew to arrive on January 25th for departure on the 27th weather dependent. The trip is free with all onboard expenses included, but you need to get to and from the boat and have money for shore stops along the way. If interested please e-mail him your resume to XXXXX@XXXX
