EditorialWhile we enjoy the summer, we are making plans for the busy fall season. Most fall opportunities do not present themselves until closer to the end of the season. if you are looking for a sure passage opportunity, we do have dates set for the NARC Rally and the ARC Rally. New this month is the addition of the opportunity to sail with Australian Skipper Murray Jacob. Murray is in the Med this summer, but finishes up his summer gig the end of September. Murray is one of our most popular skippers and some OPO members who have sailed with him in the past will be signing up again. If you would like to join Murray for either passage opportunity listed below, please let me know soon.

Newport Boat Show – We will once again have a booth at the Newport Boat Show this year. Active members who have already paid their annual dues for the year are eligible for a free boat show ticket. The show is from September 11th to 14th. We will have a reminder about annual dues the middle of this month and more reminders in the September 1st Notice and a couple more times before we start the new address book October 1st. I will ask for the names of members who wish to get a free ticket in the September 1st notice. Annual Dues this year will remain at $125 if you are paying by check. Online and credit card dues will be $135. It is still early so dues are not due yet. Just letting folks know. Checks should be made out to OPO and mailed to the PO Box above.

France to Canary Islands via Madeira – Some OPO members will be excited to hear that Murray Jacob will be making two passages for us this fall. Murray missed last winter in the Caribbean spending time with family back home down under. He finishes up a summer job in Greece at the end of September.  Crew can fly into Marseille France Saturday October 4th and spend three weeks sailing from there to Las Palmas Gran Canarias. The boat is a very well equipped Swan 46 that we will also be sailing aboard in the ARC in November.  Fly home from there Saturday October 25th.   One of my favorite stops in the World is the island of Madeira & Porto Santo, SW of Gibraltar and belonging to Portugal. It is not too far out of the way and Murray was keen to add this to the route. We are charging only $1800 for the three weeks, plus some expenses. Dockage in France and Las Palmas is included, but crew will chip in for proviosnong and dockage (Fuel will be included) anywhere else. That way you can buy any food you want and not be restricted. If interested let me know. Murray is busy in Greece, but if you have his e-mail you can e-mail him as well.

NARC Rally

Newport to Bermuda to St. Maartin – This falls under the same category for people that need to plan their vacation sailing time off, well in advance and who want to make sure they are on a strong boat with a very experienced skipper on their passage south in the fall. Murray will be skippering a pristine Swan 53 and I will be sailing the best maintained Swan 46 in the World. The dates are to meet us in Newport Friday October 31st and to fly home from St. Maarten November 18th.  All inclusive except transportation to and from the boat is only $2500.

ARC

Las Palmas to St. Lucia to St. Maarten – And finally the granddaddy of all rallies, the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers started by Jimmy Cornell in 1986. With over 225 boats and well over a 1000 crew this is a Bucket List event. We have two berths left for this rare OPO opportunity. You can fly in two weeks before the Nov 22nd departure to enjoy the many seminars and socials. After the finish in St. Lucia about 19 days after we depart, we will spend a few days there before taking the boat to St. Maarten by December 18th. The cost is $4000 all inclusive minus transportation. All the prices for these opportunities are very good for the opportunity to sail on a Swan offshore with a pro skipper. Our close relationship with Swan Owners makes this possible. Do take advantage.
