Editorial
The May issue is always short on long range opportunities as we are sending out sailing opportunities as they come in. I am presently in Antigua for Sailing Week with 9 other OPO members. We had two last minute cancellations and Jan also could not make it. Despite the small crew and zero practice (it is a 6 day event so no time) we pulled off a 5th the first day and a 4th the 2nd day out of about 16 boats. We will not mention the 3rd day. Today is lay day so we have time to rest weary bones and hangovers.
It has been a very good winter season with 35 OPO members joining us for regattas and another dozen for charter weeks. Next winter we will be back from our 5th Antigua Sailing week and 4th full winter Caribbean Tour.
If you are looking for a longish sailing opportunity and have not found one yet, the odds are quickly working in your favor. Many members have already committed to passages and we know there are more in the works and we will let you know as soon as we get all the details. Cathy will be coming to St. Maarten this Sunday, so we will be running the show from down hear. Please e-mail us next week since Cathy and I will not be home to check the phones.

Bermuda to New York
The last Swan opportunity to sail board Avocation this year is from Bermuda to NY departing June 2nd and arriving in NY June 8th. The skipper is Nick Popovich who has been delivering boats with us for the past 8 years. He is a great guy and cook. We have two berths left if you are looking for a quality passage and set dates. The price is $1300 all inclusive except for your transportation to and from the boat. I will be back in NY May 24th to go over final details and send you a letter for immigration in Bermuda. If interested please e-mail us soon.

European Tour
As many of your know Avocation is full and has been full for her Trans-at both to and from Europe for some time. In early June I meeting the owner of a Swan 56 who may be looking to join our program for the ARC so we may more opportunities to join us in Spain.
We are inviting OPO members to join us for three two week sailing periods while we are in Europe before and after the Swan Worlds in Sardinia. The first is to fly into Gibraltar July 15th to sail from there to Sardinia arriving August 1st. You can stay aboard Avocation in Sardinia after we arrive for a couple of days when we arrive at no extra charge. It is a planned two week vacation sail visiting the Balearic Islands (Palma, Mallorca etc). We already have two crew and invite two or three more to join us. The price is $150 a day for non-OPO members and $125 a day for members. You are welcome to invite a non member or two to join us. Just send me an e-mail and we can work out the plane tickets now and the money end of it when I get back to the office May 25th. I do not depart until June 15th so we will have 3 weeks to confirm details. The next opportunity is from September 15th to October 1st sailing from Sardinia to Barcelona Spain. This will be via Corsica. In Barcelona they are hosting a Sailing Summit (Green eco event) named "Sail to Barcelona", that we may be attending. Our plan at present is to keep the boat in Barcelona for the month of October. If no "green movement" wants to stay aboard, we should have accommodations for OPO members for the month of October, if you want to hang out and be green for the month. The only change is if the decide if the Americas Cup will be October this year and we want to check it our in early October. We should know as soon as the courts decide and Alinghi makes up her mind to defend the Cup or not.
November 1st we will depart Barcelona for Gibraltar, Mederia and finally Las Palmas Canary Islands by Nov 15th at which time the crew for the ARC will be joining us. If the Swan 56 comes through and looks good you can join Avocation early and then switch to the 56 in Las Palmas.

Sardinia Worlds
Four people have already sent in their $1000 deposits for the Sardinia Worlds from Sept 1st to September 15th. We only have 10 berths. When I get back to NY May 24th I will be finalizing our crew list so if you are on the fence about joining, please decide by the end of May. The balance will not be due until August 1st. The last April 1st Notice had all the details about accommodations and pricing. This is truly a once in a lifetime chance for us and I would think any of you to sail in a pinnacle event such as this. We are all set with housing, rental cars, etc. We have a new set of sails that will be flown into Italy just before the race and we are having the boat hauled and bottom painted just before the race. We will have at least 4 days of practice and maybe more. It should be a very good event for us.
