Editorial
The May 1st Notice is going out early and will be shorter this month since the opportunities have been going out as fast as they come in. It is the month when most of us are out sailing or should be planning to go soon. It is alss being sent in the open file rather than as an attachment to save me time with the few mac users we have. Cathy will keep the notices going out while I am away and will check the phone and e-mail at least once a day.
We are just back from the Oakland Pacific Coast Strictly Sail Show. It was a good show and will help us create more opportunities on the West Coast. We hope to partner with an organization on the West Coast to coordinate more of the shorter opportunities, like we have on the East Coast, to help bolster membership.

OPO Race Team
(OPORT)– Thirty members have signed up for OPORT. Including several from farther away who want to take advantage of the three-day weekends practice sessions we will be offering. Two dates have been picked to go sailing when we get back from St. Maartin. To make sure you get the next e-mail about the development of this new Race Team Program, e-mail Cathy and ask her to add you to the list. The next OPORT notice will not be going out until I get back May 23rd.
If you are having trouble getting that first offshore passage under your belt, think about signing up for one of the round trip legs to Bermuda from NY this June. Captain John Baum will be making the first trip departing through New York Harbor June 4th to June 18th. John is an ASA Instructor and teaches the Captains Coarse for the Mariner’s Captains School. If you are planning to take the Captains test soon, this would be an ideal passage to make.
I will be skippering the second trip to Bermuda departing NY June 18th and returning July 2nd. Take a look at the web site. The trips are a great deal and include all the provisioning, fuel, head tax in Bermuda, towels and linen. All you need is airfare (make the round trip and do not worry about a one-way from Bermuda) and spending money ashore. Don’t let this opportunity fill up and pass you by. It may be just the first offshore experience you need to set you up for a good passage in the fall. June is a very good time of year to be making this passage. If you are interested let Cathy know and she will make sure you get the right information about signing aboard and can tell you what berths are still open.

Photos Needed
Last winter we had one of our members get a cover photo for a local
sailing magazine simply by our asking for some pictures to be sent to them.
George Day at Blue Water Sailing has a July Issue where he has information
about the rallies coming up in the fall. If anyone has any pictures from the
Narc Rally or one of our Swan Passages and would like to send it to George
for the article, it would be a good introduction to the magazine and George
Day, and would get you a byline for the photo. Add a few words and maybe even
get quoted for the article. If you would like to submit some pictures and
script e-mail it to george@bwsailing.com He asked for some pictures at the
Pacific Coast Strictly Sail Show last Sunday. I told him I would only be
home a couple of days, but would see what I could find. It would be fun
to have our members send him lots of pictures and captions and see what
he does with them. The deadline for the issue is in about three weeks. Thanks.
