Editorial
We just completed (and I got back) from the second of our planned round trip passages from Huntington NY to Bermuda. On the leg down we had great wind and made the 700 miles passage in 4 ½ days and never used the motor. The return trip only took 5 ¼ days.
We replaced this years Newfoundland Passage Program with the OPO Race Team (OPORT) practice and participation in the Rolex Swan American Regatta at the end of July. Fifteen OPO members will be sailing with us this weekend and it looks like we will have a full crew for this first event. After polling OPORT members which Winter Caribbean events they may sail in, we will let our OPO members know which berths are open for sailing with us this winter.

NARC Rally
I will have copies of our posters in a few days for the rally. Let me know if you have a club or marina bulletin boards near you and I will send you as many posters as you can hang. Tell anyone you meet who may be thinking about heading south this fall about the rally. Anyone spending time on the sailing chat rooms can feel free to tell others about the event. In September we should start hearing from skippers that will be looking for crew and will see how many berths open up for members.

OPO Swan Race Team
OPORT members are getting their own e-mail notices since we do not want to bore (or gloat) to non-OPORT team members. Most of the 15 will be sailing this July with us in Newport. They will then form the core-experienced members for the Winter Sailing Regattas. We will keep you posted through the fall and winter when the regattas are and how you can join us. If we get a lot of people we can always charter another boat.

Non-Race Swan Charter Opportunities
The month of August and much of the early fall we are reserving for non-racing member that want to sail aboard Avocation. We can tailor some time to fit your schedule or vacation plans. Any OPO member can request a block of time to take their non-OPO member friends and family out on the water. A day sail, a two day short trip with an overnight at anchor, or a three or four day sail out to Block Island and back, are all possible opportunities. If you have six friends or family members that would like to charter Avocation with a captain for a short sail or even up to a week away should contact us and see how affordable it can be. During the week 6 people overnight 2 days/$1299. Three days and two nights for six people is $1899 and three days and four nights would costs $2699. This includes a captain/mate. This is a good way to bring a spouse or partner along to introduce coastal sailing to.
If we have six people that would like to plan a full week cruise starting in New York and heading out East this late August, we can pick a full week and put the itinerary together. Anyone interested in joining five other members or that wishes to bring a friend or two and pair up with others to make six in total we will be happy to coordinate for $1000 per person per week. Just let me know if you are interested and I will pick a full week at the end of next month and help put together a full crew.
Opportunities - There are not many offshore opportunities during hurricane season. Any that come in we will evaluate and see if they are safe for this time of year. Short notice short opportunities will continue to be posted as they arise.
