MailSail: The World of Yachting featuring Avocation, CNN
St. Maarten to Bermuda to Newport
This year we depart St. Maarten on Sunday May 8th. Crew would arrive on Saturday May 7th and move right aboard Avocation, our own Swan 48. The passage north takes 14 days with a stop in Bermuda for a day or two. We sail with 6 crew and run 2 person watches with three hpours on and six hours off. We do not use the auto-pilot as we want everyone to learn by hand steering. This is an instructional passage where you learn by soing and spening almost the entire twow eeks at sea. It normally takes five or six day to get to Bermuda. We will spend about two nights and one full day in Bermuda before making the 2nd leg from Bermuda to New York (If we have all US citizens) or Newport if we need to clear customs in person. The cost all inclusive except for your transportation to and from the boat is $2665 per person. This includes all provisioning, fuel, captain and even linen and towels. Plan to fly home no later than Sunday May 22nd.
